Context

A top German InsurTech platform serving 44k+ insurance brokers across the DACH region, built around the end-to-end automation of contract signing and financial management. Contracts moved through initiation, signing and submission across a distributed estate, integrated with 100 German insurers and a third-party signature provider.

The hard part

A signature workflow spanning several services and an external provider has no single place to hold the truth. Document state had to stay consistent across the distributed system while the platform kept running for brokers who depended on it, so the work had to be atomic where it mattered and eventually consistent everywhere else — and the migration onto the new workflow had to stay backward compatible throughout.

Outcome

Contract signing with 100 German insurers now runs through REST microservices in .NET 8, built as a greenfield application of core transfer services using choreography across the life insurance, property insurance and pension scheme modules, with eDocBox integrated for digital signatures. A backward-compatible migration moved every step from document generation to digital contract signing onto the new workflow without destabilising the platform, and Datadog wired into SNS and SQS event processing, Azure DevOps pipelines and xUnit test suites keep it observable and stable.

The work

  1. 01

Successfully supported 44k insurance brokers from the DACH region, by integrating with the 100 insurance companies from Germany for contract signing using REST microservices and .NET 8.

  2. 02

Architected a greenfield application, by developing core transfer services applying choreography for life insurance, property insurance and pension schemes modules in .NET 8 and by integrating with the 3rd party, eDocBox for digital signatures.

  3. 03

Ensured the stability of the whole platform, by developing the backward compatible migration process which automated all the processes from document generation to digital contract signing to a new workflow using Angular, C# and .NET WebAPI.

  4. 04

Set up observability for performance monitoring purposes by interconnecting Datadog with Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS event processing, improving platform stability through Azure DevOps pipelines, deployment guidelines, and unit/integration tests using xUnit, FluentAssertions.
